Arne Jacobsen Haus

Hamburg
In the heart of Hamburg's City Nord district, a project is underway that combines architectural history with a vision of the future: STRABAG subsidiary ZÜBLIN has been commissioned by AJH GmbH to carry out the turnkey revitalization of the listed Arne Jacobsen building. The former landmark, which served as the headquarters of Hamburgische Electricitäts-Werke (HEW), is being transformed into a modern new work complex. At the same time, the special character that world-renowned architect Arne Jacobsen and his partner Otto Weitling once gave the building will be preserved.

The construction work is being carried out in accordance with the high requirements of historic preservation: The entire facade of the 13-story high-rise is being dismantled and replaced with a modern, energy-efficient building envelope in keeping with historic preservation guidelines. Inside, the building will be decontaminated. In addition, minor structural adjustments and high-quality finishing work will be carried out on around 50,000  m2 of gross floor area (GFA). Selected areas will remain in their original condition or will be reconstructed in accordance with historic preservation guidelines.
